Shure M44-7 Turntablist Cartridge

After years of struggling with Ortofon and Stanton of all kinds, here are my Technics SL-equipped cell 1200MkII Shure M 44-7 .... surprise and miracle! It is a wonder that cell! If my research yielded the truth, rather than the usual audio marketing BS (the consumer audio market is full of BS), the "Tonar" brand is a re-branding of Jico's n44g aftermarket stylus. A: They did in the late 70s. But we couldn’t come up with something better performing than what we had in moving magnet units. The V15 V includes other versions than the standard V15 V: the V15 VMR, V15 VxMR, and Ultra 500. There are a number of other subtle variations that are confusing to say the least, and not at all helped by the awkward branding. The Ultra 500 version is a V15 V with metal mounting that may be the best of the bunch. Some prefer the VxMR, though it does have a rolled off high end which has lead people to make comparisons to the Shure M97xE. I may try to find time to do the same with my Jico N447 DJ improved some time vs Shure N447 also. I have to do a few other recording tests first though and I really don't enjoy all the switching components lol. So could be a little while xD

I've heard that Shure, Jico and Tonar all need time to break in - would leaving the tonearm/stylus resting on a piece of vinyl for a night or two be a decent way to start the process? I realise actually playing the thing is best but is that an ok warm up? I wouldn't have the turntable powered or platter spinning, just letting the cantilever 'break in'. Did you record before the stylus changes, without issues? Or are you new to recording? I don't think recording with Shure vs recording with Jico should produce all these new issues with volume changes. Shure is privately held and has the ability to do things other companies can’t or won’t do. They have a complete archive with at least one of every product they have ever made since 1932.To clarify, there is NO difference in specs apparently between the 7 and G models by Jico - just the colour of the stylus body. That's what Jico told me.

In 1997, the V15VxMR was introduced with improvements in the stylus design and pole piece design to provide a warmer and more musical sound quality. And what's with the cantilever? In 1973, the V15 Type III debuts with a uniformly flat, unaccented, uncolored frequency response. This was accomplished by reducing the stylus mass by 25% and by employing a new laminated pole piece design. I am exactly on the same boat. My 5 months n447 was bent and even being able to put in more or less on its place to play a gig it is tilted to one side so probably won’t last long. Juno sells tonar, I was wondering if anyone did an AB test with a original one to see how it performs

After a good setting it adheres to all that passes below: vinyl, pancakes, rugs ... and it does not take off with hair!
